If you're looking for the best of Seward Alaska sightseeing, this tour is a great way to see Seward in a day, especially for those without transportation, arriving/departing Seward by train or cruise ship, to get out and about on their own.  This tour is fully guided by a long-time Alaskan, and all expenses are included.

First, take in the fascinating history and breathtaking beauty as your guide shows you the sights of Seward, known as “the Gateway to Alaska” and “Mile 0″ of the Iditarod Trail.  See first-hand the effects of the 1964 Earthquake and stand in awe of the mountain that is home to the second oldest foot race in the United States.

Then, head out to Exit Glacier in the Kenai Fjords National Park for one of Seward’s favorite views.  A short walk along the nature trail takes you to the face of the glacial ice.  Watch for mountain goats, moose or bear on the mountainside.  During the salmon runs, see salmon swimming upstream to spawn.  A hearty lunch will be served at nearby Resurrection Roadhouse before you travel to the Seavey homestead and experience a 90-minute dog sled ride and tour.  At the end of this fun-filled day, your driver will return you to your Seward hotel, cruise ship or the Alaska Railroad depot.

Tour / Activity Description

Important

  • A cell phone number for the lead guest in your party will be required during ordering so the guides may text you the night before your tour to reconfirm your order and provide pick-up information.
  • The bus and the dog sleds are NOT wheelchair-accessible, although folding wheelchairs and walkers can be used and stored.
  • The hike to Exit Glacier takes about an hour over moderate terrain.  If for any reason you do not want to do the hike, you may stay in the Exit Glacier Visitors Center.  You will still be afforded excellent views of Exit Glacier on the drive to there.
  • This tour does not walk ON the glacier.  You might be able to walk up to its edge, though.
  • Wildlife such as bears and moose are often seen on this tour, especially while out at Exit Glacier.  Wildlife, however, is wild, so guides cannot control when it will be seen and cannot guarantee that it will be seen.
  • Guests who are arriving on the Coastal Classic will not miss the tour if the train arrival is later than normal. The tour will not depart before the train arrives and guests will have time to join the tour. There is limited space for luggage on the bus but most area hotels have shuttles at the train arrival to transport luggage.
  • Guests who will be departing on the Coastal Cloassic following the tour are advised to take their luggage to the train station in the morning after 10:00 am, check their bags and get boarding passes. Many area hotels offer transportation for this service, or it's walkable from the cruise ship terminal. Meet the tour bus at the train depot. Guests will be on-time for the Coastal Classic departure.
